(Thunder Bay to Kakabeka Falls proposed)
PHASE II - KAKABEKA FALLS TRAIL 5 KMĀ
(28 KM proposed)
Note: Approximately 5 km. of this trail has been completed from King Road (Fort William Historical Park) west to Hogarth Plantation Trail (25th Side Road) and Rosslyn Road. Unfortunately we have been unable to secure approval from Oliver-Paipoonge Township Council for our proposed route to Kakabeka Falls via Rosslyn Road, Harstone Road, and Luckens Road. As such this route (25th Side Road to Kakabeka Falls), while not official, will be shown on our maps to guide users through the Township via puclicly accessible roads. Updates will be provided as available.
The map below shows the current approved section of the Kakabeka Falls Trail, which is registered as part of the official Trans Canada Trail trail network. As an extension of the existing City of Thunder Bay Trans Canada Trail, it continues from Fort William Historical Park westward for nearly 5 km. along the north easement of Broadway Avenue and south side of Whitewater Drive. This trail also includes the "Hogarth Plantation Loop Trail" which forms a nice loop option. We continue to work on gainingĀ approval for the remainder of the trail to Kakabeka Falls.

THUNDER BAY to KAKABEKA FALLS ROUTE
The map and spreadsheet below indicate mileage references from Thunder Bay to Kakabeka Falls
Projected to connect to our Shabaqua Trail near Kakabeka Falls, presently this trail extends the existing Trans Canada Trail at Fort William Historical Park on Broadway Avenue west to the Lakehead University Hogarth Plantation property at 25th Side Road. Please note that Whitewater Drive and properties west of the trail's end are private property.
From there, users can follow the unapproved route through Oliver-Paipoonge Township via 25th Side Road, Rosslyn Road, Luckens Road to Highway 590. Proposed to primarily follow existing Township roads, this approximately 30 kilometre route provides hikers and cyclists a safer option rather than the Trans Canada Highway while traversing through the Thunder Bay area.
Campsite locations are available at the gem of the North - Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park in Kakabeka Falls, and Fort William Historical Park in Thunder Bay.
