PHASE IV - NIPIGON TRAIL
We are in the very early stages of determining a potential route to connect Thunder Bay east to Nipigon. Due to the many parcels of private lands along the shoreline of Lake Superior, we have instead focused on Crown lands west of there and the Trans Canada Highway 11/17.Â
At 185 km (115 mi), the trail is projected to run from Trowbridge Park at the north end of Thunder Bay to Nipigon, taking in Wolf River Falls, Morraine (Talking) Falls, Ouimet Canyon, and the Deer Lake Trail. This will be accomplished by mainly focusing on reclaiming old unused roads and trails, then connecting them together to form one contiguous trail. This strategy will be instrumental in reducing our footprint, minimizing expenditure of resources, and reducing trail maintenance time.
